COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  When do I plant strawberries?
As early as the ground will permit.....ie. early May
Won't the plants freeze?
No. The plant itself is a perennial, it will not freeze.

The only time that the frost is a concern is in the spring during the picking year, when the plant is in full bloom.Frost will kill the blossom and this results in no strawberry formation that year. The plant, however, will live on to produce more flowers the following year.
When do I apply the straw?
Straw is applied after the plants go dormant.
Two nights at -5*C or colder--usually November 10 or later.
When do I remove the straw?
    Approximately, May 10
Check by looking for "shoot growth" under the straw in the spring.
